Mixology: What is it?
March 16, 2010
That is the question! At our initial meeting, the SMPS/LA Newsletter Committee opened the table for ideas on columns to include in this quarterly newsletter. One of my hot topics was: What is "Mixology"? And what is it all about? Fortunately, it was the same question that other committee members had, as well. And thus the unraveling of the Mixology hysteria begins!
As I decided to investigate this "Mixology" event further, I started with the meaning of "mixer" or, as www.dictionary.com defines it: noun. a person, with reference to sociability: She's a good mixer to have at a large party; a social event, as a party or dance, where people can meet informally. So, to take this a little bit further, Mixology is an informal social event. Based on my experience at the January Mixology, I define it as: "an informal social networking tool, where members and non-members can relax, get informed, and share in a synergetic, casual and fun atmosphere; thus expanding their professional networks." Sound like fun to you?
Here is some feedback from a few individuals that attended the event this past month:
"I am not a member, however, I think that networking events such as this drives relationship development, because people get to sit and talk at great lengths."
"Any type of networking helps to expand and broaden business horizons."
"I love SMPS events; they are always well-worth my companies' time and money. I see them as an investment in our marketing and branding portfolio."
"At Mixology, I always meet people in realms that I typically would not. Not only is it a causal environment, it allows you to talk more comfortably to people with a unique perspective into an industry in which we are all relative to."
So, if you and your associates are looking for a new and exciting way to expand you're A/E/C industry marketing experience, I suggest that you make a commitment to join SMPS for the next Mixology event! As always, SMPS events are advertised at http://www.smps-la.org/eventslist9-1/Events.
I know we all have grudges when it comes to traveling into L.A. during rush-hour traffic. However, based on my experience, it's a simple once-a-month "happy-hour" commitment ~ and a great way to productively wind-down a Thursday. All while you are building and utilizing savvy networking skills!
We look forward to seeing you all at future Mixology events! Cheers to productive networking!!!
